The ball is killing my finger?

I play first base and lately whenever I catch the ball, I feel pain at the very bottom joint of my finger. I don't think it's serious, but whenever I catch regular throws (not even in the palm) it kills my index finger. I already where a batting glove under my mitt but it still hurts. Should I just ice it?
